The computers BIOS ( Basic Input Output System ) is the software that is loaded on the BIOS ROM chip that comes with your motherboard. The BIOS software serves as the missing link between your hardware and operating system. Your BIOS controls your CPU speed, FSB frequency, and all other low level hardware for the motherboard like intergraded peripherals including sound, video, ports etc. Your BIOS also controls power management and some BIOS's even keep track of system health settings like CPU and system temperatures. To say the least, your BIOS is very important but like all software it can have bugs or require updating when new hardware comes out. I normally don't recommend to people to update there BIOS unless they are having problems that could be associated to the BIOS or just got new hardware that isn't supported without a BIOS upgrade. If your reading this then I assume your interested in upgrading your BIOS and want some input on how it should be done.

This article will cover flashing the BIOS on the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. Most procedures should be the same on all motherboards but some specifics will be different from manufacturer to manufacturer and chipset to chipset. The most important part of flashing your BIOS should be common sense. It is hard to make a mistake with current motherboards but it is possible. You should not flash your BIOS during foul weather or anytime where there is a possibility you could loose power because if your system turns off in the middle of flashing, it could be very difficult if not imposable to fix it.
