Now that you are waiting at your DOS prompt take your boot floppy out and insert the floppy with your BIOS image on it. From here you need to type the command DIR and hit enter to run a directory of the floppy disk. You should have two files on the disk, one file is your flash utility and will end with a file extension like .EXE or .COM the other file is your BIOS image itself. Get a piece of paper and write down the full name of your BIOS image in my case it was named (AN8D1007.BIN) you need to include the file extension, this is important. Now that you have the name of the BIOS image written down, type the name of the BIOS utility at the command prompt and hit enter in my case I typed (AWDFLASH). at this point your BIOS utility should open and give you a screen similar to the second photo above. In the space provided type the full name of your BIOS image that you wrote down before and hit enter. Your BIOS should now load the BIOS image off the disk and in to memory.  If you have any errors here restart your computer and make a new disk for your BIOS image and utility on a brand new floppy, if after you do this you continue to have errors you may need to replace your floppy drive, cable, or both. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS IF YOU RECEIVE ANY ERRORS, correct the errors before you continue. If you did not receive any errors your BIOS utility will now ask you if you want to backup the old BIOS. This is a good idea to do just incase you have problems with the new BIOS.  It will allow you to flash your old one back if you need to. Pick whatever name you want for your backup in my case I picked (oldbios.bin). after your BIOS back's up we can move on to the next step.

After your BIOS is finished backing up it should ask you if you want to program the BIOS now. Follow the directions on the screen to start flashing your BIOS. This will be completely automated so you will just have to wait for it to finish. This is however the part of the procedure that can destroy your motherboard if you turn your computer off or loose power.  So whatever you do DO NOT restart your computer until the program directs you to. When flashing is finished your BIOS utility may ask you if you want to reprogram your BIOS, some people find this necessary just to make sure the BIOS is programmed correctly, but I find it redundant and unnecessary. At this point you can exit your BIOS utility and restart your computer.

As soon as your computer hits the post screen hit the DEL key or whatever key is required to enter the BIOS settings (Note: the first photo shows my new BIOS version). The first thing you should do is reset your BIOS to default settings just incase your motherboard manufacturer disabled or added some settings to your new BIOS version. After you reset your BIOS you will need to go through and set your BIOS settings to what you had before like CPU speed, AGP aperture, memory speed, etc. If your like me you know these settings by heart, but if you need to, write them down before you flash your BIOS. As soon as your done setting your BIOS up save your BIOS settings and exit.
