A lot of times no one thinks that maybe their mouse pad could help them play their favorite game better. Well I was at one time just like that until I was sent a steelpad for review. I always thought as long as my mouse pad doesn't have big holes thru the top layer and it sticks to the desk ok then its fine. I have been using an AMD Mouse pad since the Athlon XP was introduced and before that I had a T-Bird and Duron RatPad, The T-Bird one is still stuck to my desk under the SteelPads new home. Well I am here to tell you now that the SteelPad is the ultimate in control.

Above is an example of the mouse pads that I am use to using compared to the steelpad. The first thing I noticed is its size. My favorite part about this mouse pad is when I was on my pc for hours the texture of the old ruff mouse pads would start rubbing the tip of my pinky raw. This would give most people the hint that there spending to much time on the computer but for me it just told me I was using the wrong mouse pad.

I used this pad for a few days with my Logitech optical mouse and had a lot of problems with the mouse jittering around so I switched it with a Microsoft Optical mouse but I didn't put the Teflon tap on the bottom of it. I was getting really frustrated because of the noise that the mouse would make moving accost the pad and the fact my pointer would lock up all the time. These problems where completely corrected when I applied the Teflon tape that was provided with the pad.

The Teflon tape is about the only thing your going to have to do other then making room for the mouse pad to fit on your desk. I also recommend cleaning the surface of your desk and the top of the steel pad to with some kind of window cleaner with ammonia in it. When Installing the Teflon tape make sure you use a razor knife to cut it to fit your mouse feet. I was having problems with the tape falling off and sticking to the mouse pad. After the Tape was installed, I had my Air conditioning on while I was typing a letter and noticed my mouse pointer moving across my screen and on to my second monitor. I looked over to see that the air coming from the vent on my wall was blowing the mouse across the SteelPad. Now that's a slick mouse surface.

Pro's
  • Large surface
  • Easy mouse movement
  • Very cool looking
Con's
  • Logitech mice don't work well
  • Feet on bottom of Steel pad could be wider to help it not slide around as much.
